Derrick Gilliam, Armed Robbery, Connecticut 2014

A Bridgeport man has pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit a string of armed robberies in 2014, stealing thousands of dollars from local businesses.

According to court documents, Derrick Gilliam, 29, of Bridgeport, admitted to conspiring to commit seven armed robberies in 2014, along with co-conspirators Lancelot Supersad and Anthony Santiago.

The robberies, which took place in Fairfield, Bridgeport, and Westport, included the armed robbery of a CVS Pharmacy on Grasmere Avenue in Fairfield on April 26, 2014, where $2,376 was stolen. On May 3, 2014, the group attempted an armed robbery of the Mobil Gas station on Noble Avenue in Bridgeport, and on May 10, 2014, they committed an armed robbery of a Webster Bank branch on Main Street in Bridgeport, stealing $4,170.

On June 1, 2014, the group committed an armed robbery of a Pizza Hut on Boston Avenue in Bridgeport, stealing $250, and on June 26, 2014, they committed an armed robbery of the Residence Inn on Bridgeport Avenue in Shelton, stealing $200. On July 2, 2014, the group attempted an armed robbery of the Sikorsky Financial Credit Union on Oronoque Lane in Stratford and committed an armed robbery of the TD Bank located on Post Road East in Westport.

Gilliam brandished and pointed what appeared to be a handgun at employees during each of the seven robberies.

Gilliam pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to affect commerce by robbery, an offense that carries a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years. He is scheduled to be sentenced by Chief U.S. District Judge Janet C. Hall on October 20, 2016.

Gilliam has been detained since his arrest on July 3, 2014. Co-conspirators Supersad and Santiago previously pleaded guilty to the same charge and await sentencing.

This investigation has been conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Westport, Shelton, Fairfield, Stratford, and Bridgeport Police Departments. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Douglas P. Morabito and Avi M. Perry.
