A federal jury in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has delivered a guilty verdict against Derrick Grant, 27, for his role in a brazen armed robbery of the First National Bank in Beaver Falls.
According to the evidence presented during the trial, on October 9, 2015, Derrick Grant, armed with a firearm, stormed into the First National Bank in Beaver Falls and made off with a total of $5,523 from three tellers.
The jury, comprising nine men and three women, deliberated for just under two hours before returning a guilty verdict against Grant. He was found guilty of three crimes: bank robbery, armed bank robbery, and using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
Grant, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA, will now face the music. Senior United States District Judge Donetta W. Ambrose has scheduled sentencing for September 27, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. The law provides for a total sentence of not less than 7 years and up to life in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both.
The investigation that led to Grant’s prosecution was a collaborative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Ross Township Police Department, and the Beaver Falls Police Department.
Assistant United States Attorney Barbara K. Doolittle led the prosecution against Grant, presenting evidence that established the defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Grant’s sentencing will mark the end of an era for the defendant, who will now face the consequences of his actions. The public can rest assured that justice will be served, and the rule of law will prevail.
