Bethlehem Man Charged with Robbery of Check Cashing Business
Raul Rodriguez, a 40-year-old man from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, has been charged with a serious crime after allegedly robbing a check cashing business in the city.
According to reports, Rodriguez and an accomplice committed the robbery at Envios Giraldo, a check cashing business located at 331 South New Street in Bethlehem, on November 12, 2014. The suspects allegedly threatened an employee with a firearm and made off with $11,140 in cash.
Rodriguez is also accused of possessing a firearm during the commission of the crime, despite being a convicted felon and prohibited from owning such a weapon. The defendant’s accomplice’s identity has not been released.
The case has been investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Northampton County District Attorney’s Office, and the City of Bethlehem Police Department.
The indictment against Rodriguez includes charges of robbery which interferes with interstate commerce, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
If convicted, Rodriguez could face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for the robbery charge, as well as a lifetime of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.
The prosecution of this case will be led by Special Assistant United States Attorney Kelly Lewis Fallenstein and Assistant United States Attorney John Gallagher.
Rodriguez is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
