A Detroit man is behind bars, accused of trying to send cash to the brutal terrorist organization ISIS.
Jibreel Pratt, 25, was arrested at his home in Detroit and charged with two counts of attempting to provide material support and resources to ISIS in March and May 2023. The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force investigated the case, which is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jerome Gorgon and Douglas Salzenstein.
According to the indictment, Pratt allegedly attempted to provide currency and monetary instruments to ISIS on two separate occasions. The indictment alleges that Pratt’s actions were a threat to the community and that he poses a risk of fleeing prosecution.
U.S. Attorney Dawn N. Ison said, “The indictment alleges that the defendant attempted to support and join ISIS, which is one of the most brutal terrorist organizations in the world. These charges reflect our commitment to hold accountable anyone who tries to help terrorists.”
FBI Special Agent in Charge Cheyvoryea Gibson added, “The protection of the American people and our communities remains a top priority for the FBI. Through joint and coordinated efforts by our law enforcement and intelligence partners, and vigilant citizens, we will continue to disrupt plots by those who desire to harm others on behalf of a foreign terrorist organization.”
Pratt faces up to 20 years in prison for each count if convicted. An indictment is merely an allegation, and Pratt is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. He will make his initial appearance in U.S. District Court today, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office will be asking the court to hold Pratt in pretrial detention due to the danger he poses to the community.
