A Detroit man has been sentenced to 5 years in prison for his role in a Huntington-area methamphetamine trafficking organization.
James Garner, 35, also known as ‘Jake,’ was sentenced to 5 years in prison, to be followed by 4 years of supervised release, for distribution of 5 grams or more of methamphetamine.
Garner admitted to selling approximately 50 grams of methamphetamine to a confidential informant in exchange for $350 on January 17, 2025.
He also admitted to selling 51 grams of methamphetamine for $350 on January 22, 2025, and 336 grams of methamphetamine for $2,400 on February 21, 2025, at a Baer Street residence in Huntington.
Garner was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped by law enforcement officers on May 31, 2025, in Huntington.
During the stop, Garner exited the vehicle and discarded a bag containing approximately 459 grams of methamphetamine near the front passenger side of the vehicle, before fleeing on foot and being apprehended after a pursuit.
The investigation into the Huntington-area methamphetamine trafficking organization is ongoing, with 5 defendants already having pleaded guilty, including Garner.
The charges against 4 other defendants, including Joshua Willie McCarver, 27, also known as ‘TJ,’ remain pending.
United States Attorney Moore Capito commended the investigative work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Cabell County Sheriff’s Office, the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, and the Huntington Police Department.
United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers imposed the sentence.
Assistant United States Attorneys Joseph F. Adams and Courtney L. Finney prosecuted the case.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that aims to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime.
