A terrifying wave of violence swept through Northern Nevada two years ago when a Sacramento man allegedly carried out two brazen armed robberies of financial institutions, leaving behind a trail of fear and destruction.
Devon Jones, 32, a Sacramento, Calif., resident, was sentenced yesterday by United States District Judge Miranda M. Du to 15 years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, for committing the two armed robberies.
According to court documents and admissions made by Jones, on January 24, 2022, he robbed a money lending business in Reno, pointing a semi-automatic 9mm pistol at an employee and demanding money. Jones then fired a round and fled the scene with cash.
Just three days later, on January 27, 2022, Jones struck again, this time targeting a bank in Carson City. After entering the bank, he started yelling and fired a shot. He then approached a teller and demanded money, firing another shot after noticing alarm lights flashing. Jones ordered all the employees to the ground and fired another shot before leaving the bank with the stolen cash.
Thanks to the tireless efforts of the FBI, Jones was brought to justice, and now he will face the consequences of his actions. United States Attorney Jason M. Frierson for the District of Nevada and Special Agent in Charge Spencer L. Evans for the FBI made the announcement.
The case was investigated by the FBI, with Assistant United States Attorney Megan Rachow prosecuting the case. It’s a stark reminder that violence will not be tolerated in our communities, and those who commit such heinous crimes will be held accountable.
As the people of Northern Nevada breathe a sigh of relief knowing that Jones will be behind bars for the next 15 years, they are also reminded of the importance of staying vigilant and reporting any suspicious activity to the authorities.
