Devon Lamar Lockridge, 34, of Detroit, Michigan, Sentenced to Five Years in Prison for Methamphetamine Possession
On August 12, 2020, Devon Lamar Lockridge, a 34-year-old Detroit, Michigan resident, was sentenced to five years in federal prison for possessing with the intent to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine.
Lockridge was previously charged after a traffic stop in Beckley, West Virginia. According to court documents, Lockridge was a passenger in a taxi that was pulled over by police for speeding. During the traffic stop, officers smelled marijuana, and Lockridge admitted to smoking marijuana.
A drug detecting canine also indicated the presence of controlled substances in the taxi. Based on this information, officers searched the car and found a bag belonging to Lockridge, which contained almost 800 grams of methamphetamine packaged in 14 separate bags, and approximately 46 grams of heroin.
Lockridge admitted that he knew the drugs were in the bag and that he intended to distribute the drugs to others. The cooperative investigative efforts of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department, the Beckley Police Department, and the Beckley/Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Unit were commended by United States Attorney Mike Stuart.
Assistant United States Attorney Timothy D. Boggess handled the prosecution. United States District Judge Frank W. Volk imposed the sentence. Lockridge will serve 60 months in prison for his crime.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking in West Virginia. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia will continue to work with local and federal agencies to bring those responsible for drug-related crimes to justice.
