A Great Falls man has been charged with assault in a serious case stemming from an incident in Poplar, Montana.
Dewayne C. Shoots, 28, was arraigned before U.S. Magistrate Judge John T. Johnston on September 8 on charges of assault resulting in serious bodily injury and assault with a dangerous weapon.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, if convicted of the most serious crime, Shoots faces a maximum 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release.
Shoots was detained pending further proceedings. The FBI, Wolf Point Police Department and Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced the arraignment in a press release, stating that the charging documents are merely accusations and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The case, which has a PACER case reference of 21-65, may be monitored through the U.S. District Court Calendar and the PACER system.
