A Dublin, Virginia man was sentenced to 81 months in federal prison for a string of firearms and methamphetamine charges.
Dezmon Harmon, 28, was found guilty of one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, two counts of possession of a firearm which has had the serial number removed, one count of possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine, one count of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and one count of possession of a firearm which is not registered in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record.
The charges stemmed from an incident on April 29, 2020, when authorities attempted to initiate a traffic stop of Harmon in Wythe County, Virginia. However, Harmon sped off in his vehicle before exiting and fleeing on foot. He was eventually apprehended by Wythe County deputies and found to be in possession of methamphetamine, a loaded, sawed-off shotgun, and a loaded .40 caliber pistol.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel J. Murphy prosecuted the case.
U.S. Attorney Christopher R. Kavanaugh of the Western District of Virginia and Charlie J. Patterson, Special Agent in Charge of ATF’s Washington Field Division made the announcement.
Dezmon Harmon’s sentence of 81 months in federal prison serves as a reminder of the severe consequences of firearms and methamphetamine charges. As law enforcement continues to crack down on these crimes, it’s essential that the public remains vigilant and reports any suspicious activity to the authorities.
In related news, authorities are urging residents to remain cautious and report any instances of firearms and methamphetamine trafficking in their communities.
