Diane Marie Eiler, Embezzlement, Minnesota 2016

A former AgQuest Financial Services, Inc. accountant has been sentenced to 42 months in prison for embezzling more than $1.7 million from her employer.

DIANE MARIE EILER, 48, of Bird Island, Minn., was sentenced to 42 months in prison for wire fraud, a crime she pleaded guilty to on April 15, 2016.

EILER was the Director of Accounting at AgQuest Financial Services, Inc., a financial services company based in Morgan, Minn., which offers loans and insurance to farmers and other agricultural producers.

From 2007 through November 2015, EILER used her position to funnel money from AgQuest to her own personal bank accounts.

She hid the theft by creating false entries in AgQuest’s ledger to disguise the payments as payments to AgQuest customers.

EILER wrote more than 250 checks to herself, which totaled more than $1.7 million.

The stolen money was primarily used for gambling, with EILER losing almost all of the funds to various betting venues.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Thompson, and was the result of an investigation conducted by the FBI.

EILER was sentenced to 42 months in prison, with an additional 3 years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $1,738,459 in restitution.
