A 36-year-old Omaha man has been sentenced to 7 years in prison for distributing child pornography.
Diego Vigil was sentenced in federal court for receiving and distributing child pornography.
The Honorable Robert F. Rossiter, Jr., sentenced Vigil to 7 years imprisonment. There is no parole in the federal system.
After his release from prison, Vigil will begin a ten-year term of supervised release and will be required to register as a sex offender.
On three separate dates between May 12, 2016, and January 29, 2017, officers were able to download images of child pornography from Vigil’s computer.
Many of the images involved infants and toddlers.
A search warrant was executed on Vigil’s home on March 3, 2017. He admitted to downloading images of child pornography.
More than 200 videos and 4,000 images involving the sexual exploitation of minors were recovered.
The images involved an age range of infant and toddler to approximately 13 years.
Omaha FBI’s Cyber Crime Task Force investigated the case.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
