In a chilling display of reckless abandon, Jacob Edwin Wilson, 40, a transient, made good on his threat to blow up the Dodson school, prompting a massive response from law enforcement and a lengthy prison sentence.
On August 29, 2023, Wilson called the Blaine County 911 emergency number and the Dodson school, located near the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation, and told authorities he was ‘about to blow Dodson school up.’
The school was evacuated, and Phillips County Sheriff’s Office first responders, the Malta Fire Department, and U.S. Border Patrol responded, setting up security around the school and searching for an explosive device. No device was found.
Wilson’s next call to 911 was a request for a ride off the reservation, claiming he was at an individual’s house and needed a ride from anyone except the Fort Belknap police. Officers tracked him down and arrested him.
U.S. Attorney Jesse Laslovich announced Wilson’s sentence today: one year and one month in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release. The court also ordered $7,000 restitution.
Jacob Edwin Wilson pleaded guilty in January to false information and hoaxes as charged in an indictment. Chief U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris presided over the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey K. Starnes handling the prosecution.
The FBI, Fort Belknap Tribal Police, Phillips County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Border Patrol, and Malta Fire Department conducted the investigation. Wilson’s actions sent shockwaves through the community, and today’s sentence serves as a reminder of the severity of his crimes.
Wilson’s case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of taking threats seriously and the devastating consequences of reckless behavior. As the community begins to heal from this ordeal, Wilson will be serving time behind bars, a fitting punishment for his actions.
