A Tampa man has been sentenced to 3 years and 1 month in federal prison for a shocking case of cyberstalking. Dominique Dragan (29, Tampa) was found guilty after a lengthy investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ilyssa M. Spergel.
According to court documents, from approximately January 2020 through July 2021, Dragan engaged in a course of conduct with the intent to harass and intimidate multiple victims. Using Instagram, Dragan cyberstalked, harassed, and threatened the victims with a series of continuous messages. He made specific threats to kill the victims, including by stating, “I can’t wait to hear the bones in your neck break,” “I’m gonna put a bullet in your forehead,” and “I can’t wait to murder you.” Dragan also included racially charged language and warned the victims not to report his threats to law enforcement.
This is not the first time Dragan has been in trouble with the law. His conduct placed the victims in reasonable fear of serious injury and death.
The harsh sentence handed down by U.S. District Judge Susan C. Bucklew should serve as a warning to others who think they can hide behind a screen and carry out such heinous crimes.
The investigation into Dragan’s activities was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Ilyssa M. Spergel was instrumental in prosecuting the case, bringing Dragan to justice for his egregious actions.
Dragan pleaded guilty on May 25, 2022, to the charges brought against him. The lengthy sentence is a testament to the seriousness of the crime and the impact it had on the victims.
The case is a sobering reminder of the dangers of cyberstalking and the importance of reporting such crimes to law enforcement.
