Cyberstalking Charges Land Maryland Man in Hot Water
A Maryland man is facing serious charges after allegedly engaging in cyberstalking and sending threatening communications over the internet. Seyed Ali Soroushjou, 36, of Cockeysville, Maryland, was arrested on April 7, 2017, at his residence.
According to authorities, Soroushjou was taken into custody by FBI agents and later made his initial appearance in Baltimore. He has been detained pending his transport to Jacksonville for further court proceedings. If convicted, he faces up to five years in federal prison on each charge.
The indictment, which is merely a formal charge, alleges that Soroushjou committed two counts of cyberstalking and sending threatening communications over the Internet. Every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant United States Attorney D. Rodney Brown taking on the prosecution.
Cyberstalking charges are taken seriously by law enforcement agencies, as they can have serious consequences for victims. In this case, Soroushjou’s alleged actions have put him in a difficult position, facing the possibility of a lengthy prison sentence if convicted.
The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. If you or someone you know is a victim of cyberstalking, there are resources available to help.
