Newark Man Sentenced to 45 Months in Prison for Bank Robbery

Donald Myer, 60, a resident of Newark, New Jersey, was sentenced to 45 months in prison for robbing a Valley National bank in Belleville, New Jersey in April 2016.

The sentencing took place on a day that was not specified in federal court in Newark. U.S. District Judge Jose L. Linares imposed the sentence.

According to documents filed in the case and statements made in court, Myer admitted to passing a note to a bank employee during the robbery, which demanded money and threatened that he would use a gun.

Myer pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery prior to the sentencing. He was also ordered to serve three years of supervised release and pay $1,000 in restitution, in addition to the prison term.

Acting U.S. Attorney William E. Fitzpatrick credited special agents of the FBI, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Timothy Gallagher in Newark, with the investigation leading to Myer’s guilty plea. He also thanked the Belleville, Kearny, and Port Authority police departments for their contributions to the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Veronica Allende represented the government in the case.
