Navy Employee Sentenced to Prison for Stealing Over $22,000
Memphis, TN – Former Navy employee Donna Lorraine Brown, 45, of Millington, Tennessee, was sentenced to eight months in federal prison followed by one year of supervised release with two months of home confinement and electronic monitoring for stealing over $22,000 from the US Navy.
Brown, who was assigned to the Navy Personnel Command Onboard Naval Support Activity Mid-South in Millington, Tennessee, was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $22,500.19 to the US Navy.
The US Navy’s investigation revealed that Brown filed approximately 19 false claims for travel reimbursement between June 2012 and March 2013 using the personal identifying information of family members of deceased Navy sailors. She then deposited the money she received from these false claims into banking accounts controlled by her and her family members.
The US Naval Criminal Investigative Service investigated the case, and Assistant US Attorney Leetra J. Harris represented the government.
Brown’s crimes occurred between June 2012 and March 2013, and she was sentenced on March 22, 2023. The case highlights the importance of accountability and transparency in government agencies.
The defendant’s full name is Donna Lorraine Brown, and she was charged with stealing over $22,000 from the US Navy.
