Donnell Thomas, Firearm Violations, Pennsylvania 2013

Steelton resident Donnell Thomas, 26, has been charged with federal firearm violations after a confrontation with Harrisburg police in 2013.

According to the indictment, Thomas attempted to ram a vehicle driven by uniformed officers from the Harrisburg Police Bureau in February 2013. He then fled from the officers but was apprehended after discarding a firearm with an obliterated serial number from the waistband of his pants.

Upon his arrest, bags containing an alleged controlled substance were seized from his person and vehicle. The charges against Thomas include Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of a Firearm in furtherance of Drug Trafficking, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance, and Possession of a Firearm with an Obliterated Serial Number.

The case is being investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and the Harrisburg Police Bureau, with Assistant United States Attorney Meredith A. Taylor handling the prosecution.

The charges against Thomas are a result of a collaborative effort by federal, county, and Harrisburg law enforcement agencies to fight violent crime in the city.

The maximum penalty for the offense carries a life imprisonment sentence, a term of supervised release, and a fine. However, the potential sentence is determined by various factors, including the nature of the offense and the defendant’s history and characteristics.

Thomas is presumed innocent until found guilty in court. The case is ongoing, and further details will be provided as more information becomes available.
