Steelton Resident Involved In Confrontation With Harrisburg Police Charged With Federal Firearm Violations

A 26-year-old Steelton man is facing serious charges after a violent confrontation with Harrisburg police officers in 2013. Donnell Thomas, a convicted felon, allegedly attempted to ram a vehicle driven by uniformed officers with his own vehicle, prompting a high-speed chase that ended with his arrest.

According to investigators, Thomas was found to be in possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, as well as bags containing a controlled substance, upon his arrest. The firearm, which had been hidden in his waistband, was seized by authorities as evidence.

The charges against Thomas include Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of a Firearm in furtherance of Drug Trafficking, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance, and Possession of a Firearm with an Obliterated Serial Number. If convicted, Thomas could face up to life imprisonment, a term of supervised release, and a fine.

The case is being investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and the Harrisburg Police Bureau, with Assistant United States Attorney Meredith A.
