Defendant Named in Brutal Murder of U.S. Postal Service Employee

DALLAS, TEXAS – February 2018 saw a senseless act of violence in the Dallas area, with a U.S. Postal Service employee being fatally shot in the early morning hours of February 19. Today, over four years later, Donnie Arlondo Ferrell, 25, of Hutchins, Texas, has been arrested and charged with the crime.

According to a federal complaint, Ferrell is accused of firing several shots from a handgun at a USPS box truck, striking the employee in the head and causing his death. The incident occurred shortly after 2:00 a.m. as the employee left the Dallas Main Post Office in the truck.

A collaborative effort by the Dallas Police Department and United States Postal Inspection Service, with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, led to Ferrell’s arrest. U.S. Attorney Erin Nealy Cox praised the cooperation among law enforcement agencies in solving the case, stating, ‘While our family of federal employees is saddened by the tragic loss of one of our own, I am proud of the cooperative effort by our federal and local law enforcement partners to solve this heinous crime.’

Ferrell is charged with one count of murder of an officer or employee of the United States or of any agency in any branch of the United States government, while such officer or employee was engaged in or on the account of the performance of official duties. He faces a possible life sentence and a $250,000 fine.

The case highlights the importance of cooperation between federal and local law enforcement agencies in solving complex crimes. U.S. Postal Inspection Service Inspector Thomas Noyes expressed his condolences to the Mosby family and praised the dedication of law enforcement partners in bringing the case to prosecution.

Ferrell is expected to make his initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Rebecca Rutherford today. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys P.J. Meitl, Keith Robinson, Nicole Dana, and Errin Martin.

A defendant is entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed in the future.
