Dr. Krishna Tripuraneni, Tax Evasion, Florida 2024

Dr. Krishna Tripuraneni, a 56-year-old gastroenterologist from Palm Beach County, has been sentenced to two years in prison for his role in an income tax fraud scheme.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida, Dr. Tripuraneni pleaded guilty to one count of filing false tax returns, in violation of Title 26, United States Code, Section 7206(1).

The scheme, which spanned from 2004 to 2008, involved Dr. Tripuraneni underreporting his income from his primary place of business, Palm Beach Gastroenterology Consultants LLC, as well as two other businesses, Palm Beach Surgery Center and PB Anesthesia Associates, LLC.

Dr. Tripuraneni used funds from these companies to pay for personal expenses, including a new home in Manalapan, Florida, condominiums, interior design improvements, and tuition payments for his children. He then classified these payments as professional consulting, building repairs, and miscellaneous expenses.

The falsified profit and loss statements were used by a tax preparer to file Dr. Tripuraneni’s corporate and personal income tax returns, resulting in a total of $18,128,066 in underreported income and $6,383,977 in outstanding taxes.

Dr. Tripuraneni’s sentencing was announced by Wifredo A. Ferrer, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, along with Kelly R. Jackson, Special Agent in Charge, Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI), George L. Piro, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Miami Field Office, and John F. Khin, Special Agent in Charge, Defense Criminal Investigative Service (DCIS), Southeast Field Office.

Dr. Tripuraneni’s prison sentence will be followed by one year of supervised release and 200 hours of community service.
