ORLANDO, FLORIDA – In a shocking case of financial betrayal, Jeffrey Hall (48, Maitland) has pleaded guilty to mail fraud, stealing over $1.5 million from his former employer, a local art gallery.
According to court documents, Hall worked at the gallery, which has locations outside of Central Florida, for over two years. During this time, he used his position to embezzle the massive sum by diverting proceeds from the sale of artwork to his own personal bank accounts or to a business account that belonged to him.
Hall also used the gallery’s artwork as loan collateral for himself and sold some of the artwork on eBay, further exacerbating the financial losses.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and it is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg.
As part of his plea agreement, Hall has agreed to pay over $1.5 million in restitution. He faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison and has a sentencing hearing scheduled for February 19, 2015.
The indictment against Hall was handed down on August 27, 2014, and this case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of embezzlement.
Orlando residents are left wondering how someone in a position of trust could commit such a heinous crime, and the community is breathing a sigh of relief that justice is being served.
