MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – In a stunning turn of events, Micheal Shane Burch, 33, of Durant, has been sentenced to 180 months in prison for the heinous crime of Sexual Exploitation of a Child/Use of a Child to Produce a Visual Depiction.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma revealed that the investigation into Burch was spearheaded by the Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Burch, who pleaded guilty on September 19, 2023, had his fate sealed after nude photos of a minor were found on his phone. These disturbing images were discovered following a complaint from the child’s parents about Burch’s suspicious behavior. Upon law enforcement questioning, Burch admitted to taking the photographs and consented to a search of his device.
The offense took place in Bryan County, within the Choctaw Nation Reservation, falling under the Eastern District of Oklahoma jurisdiction. The Honorable Keith Starrett, U.S. District Judge from the Southern District of Mississippi, by assignment, presided over the hearing held in Muskogee. Burch will remain in custody of the U.S. Marshal while awaiting transportation to a federal prison facility to serve his non-paroleable sentence.
The prosecution was led by Assistant United States Attorneys Morgan Muzljakovich and Jessica Bove, who represented the United States in this case.
