Durant Woman Pleads Guilty to Theft at Choctaw Casino
CRYSTAL DEANN AIRINGTON, a 40-year-old Durant woman, has pleaded guilty to THEFT BY OFFICERS OR EMPLOYEES OF GAMING ESTABLISHMENT ON INDIAN LANDS in a high-stakes case tied to the Choctaw Nation Casino and Resort.
According to court documents, Airington embezzled, abstracted, purloined, willfully misapplied, and took and carried away in excess of $1,000.00 of moneys belonging to the Choctaw Nation Casino and Resort, an Indian gaming establishment operated by the Choctaw Nation in Indian Country.
The charges stem from an investigation by the Choctaw Nation Tribal Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which uncovered a complex web of deceit and theft at the casino.
Airington’s guilty plea was accepted by the Honorable Kimberly E. West, a Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. The court has ordered the completion of a presentence report, and Airington will remain on bond pending sentencing.
Assistant United States Attorney Edward Snow represented the United States in the case, which carries a maximum penalty of not more than 20 years imprisonment, up to a $1,000,000.00 fine or both.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of accountability in gaming establishments and the consequences of those who betray the trust of their employers and the public.
A sentencing date has yet to be scheduled, but one thing is clear: CRYSTAL DEANN AIRINGTON will face the music for her crimes at the Choctaw Nation Casino and Resort.
The guilty plea marks a significant victory for the Choctaw Nation and the law enforcement agencies that worked tirelessly to bring Airington to justice.
