Dushawn D. Williams, Crack Distribution, West Virginia 2016

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – In a federal court hearing, Dushawn D. Williams, 39, pleaded guilty to distribution of crack, a hard-hitting crime that has plagued Charleston’s communities.

According to court documents, Williams admitted to selling approximately an ounce of crack to a confidential informant working with law enforcement in exchange for $1,600 on July 24, 2015. The illicit transaction took place in the parking lot of the Dollar General store in Cross Lanes.

Williams now faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a $1 million fine when he is sentenced on July 13, 2016.

The investigation of Williams was conducted by the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team, with Assistant United States Attorney John J. Frail leading the prosecution. The Williams plea hearing was held before United States District Judge Thomas E. Johnston.

This case is part of an ongoing effort led by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia to combat illegal drugs in our communities, including the illicit sale and misuse of prescription drugs and heroin.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office, joined by federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, is committed to aggressively pursuing and shutting down illegal pill trafficking, eliminating open-air drug markets, and curtailing the spread of opiate painkillers and other drugs in communities across the Southern District.

A separate but equally concerning case involves Alan Alexander Clark, 33, who pleaded guilty to distribution of heroin. Clark admitted to selling approximately half a gram of heroin to a confidential informant on July 29, 2015, at the Rite Aid Pharmacy at 406 Washington Street, West, in Charleston.

Clark now faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a $1 million fine when he is sentenced on July 5, 2016. The investigation of Clark was conducted by the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team, with Assistant United States Attorney Clint Carte leading the prosecution. The Clark plea hearing was held before United States District Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr.
