Lakeland Man Charged with Possessing Fentanyl

Nahum Rodriguez-Jaimes, a 48-year-old resident of Lakeland, has been charged with possessing fentanyl with the intent to distribute. This crime carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison for each of the three counts.

According to a plea agreement and court records, law enforcement officials received information that Rodriguez-Jaimes was distributing fentanyl in Plant City. The defendant was involved in three separate transactions at a commercial business in Plant City, where he distributed a total of 503 fentanyl pills and 3 baggies of fentanyl pills between September 28 and October 19, 2023.

On September 28, 2023, Rodriguez-Jaimes distributed 200 fentanyl pills. On October 10, 2023, he distributed 300 fentanyl pills, and on October 19, 2023, he distributed an additional 3 baggies of fentanyl pills. These transactions took place at a commercial business in Plant City.

Rodriguez-Jaimes is a citizen of Mexico and is subject to deportation. This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the Plant City Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Maria Guzman.

The plea agreement was announced by United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg. A sentencing date has not yet been set for Rodriguez-Jaimes. The defendant faces up to 60 years in prison for the three counts of possessing fentanyl with the intent to distribute.
