Acoma Pueblo Man Faces Lengthy Sentence for DUI-Related Death
Albuquerque, NM – In a disturbing case of impaired driving, Dwight T. Brown, an 18-year-old resident of Acoma Pueblo, New Mexico, pleaded guilty to an involuntary manslaughter charge in federal court in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on April 15, 2015.
The victim, an Indian child, tragically lost their life on April 9, 2015, as a result of Brown’s reckless behavior while driving under the influence of alcohol on the Acoma Pueblo in Cibola County, New Mexico.
Brown was arrested on April 15, 2015, on a criminal complaint charging him with the child’s murder. During today’s hearing, he pled guilty to a felony information charging him with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of the victim.
At sentencing, Brown faces a statutory maximum penalty of eight years in federal prison. Maximum potential sentences are prescribed by Congress and the sentence imposed on Brown will be determined by the court. A sentencing hearing has yet to be scheduled.
The case was investigated by the Laguna/Acoma Agency of the BIA’s Office of Justice Services and the Acoma Pueblo Tribal Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Niki Tapia-Brito is prosecuting the case.
Dwight T. Brown’s reckless actions have left a family without their loved one, and now he faces a lengthy sentence for his crimes.
