Fort Smith Man Sentenced to 10 Years in Federal Prison for Methamphetamine Trafficking
Fort Smith, Arkansas – In a major blow to the city’s narcotics trade, Dylan Dempsey, a 26-year-old Fort Smith resident, was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release for his role in a large-scale methamphetamine trafficking conspiracy.
According to court records, Dempsey was the last defendant to be sentenced from a 16-count indictment against eight individuals who operated a massive methamphetamine trafficking ring in the Fort Smith area from 2015 to 2018.
The indictment, handed down by a federal grand jury in February 2018, charged Dempsey and his co-conspirators with conspiring to distribute multiple kilograms of methamphetamine throughout the region.
Dempsey, who pleaded guilty to the charge in February 2019, faced a maximum sentence of life in prison. However, thanks to the tireless efforts of prosecutors and law enforcement agencies, he will instead serve 10 years behind bars.
The investigation into Dempsey’s activities was a collaborative effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the 12th/21st Judicial District Drug Task Force, Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Smith Police Department, Van Buren Police Department, and the Arkansas National Guard Counterdrug.
Assistant United States Attorneys Candace Taylor and Aaron Jennen prosecuted the case, bringing the perpetrators to justice and ensuring that the citizens of Fort Smith are safer as a result.
As the Grimy Times continues to expose the dark underbelly of organized crime, we will continue to shine a light on those who seek to profit from the suffering of others. Dempsey’s sentence is a testament to the power of perseverance and the unwavering commitment of law enforcement agencies to keep our communities safe.
