Eagle Butte Man Sentenced for Abusive Sexual Contact

A 24-year-old Eagle Butte man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a horrific crime. Brad Lee Red Bear was sentenced on September 9, 2014, by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange after he was found guilty of Abusive Sexual Contact by Force.

According to court documents, Red Bear was indicted by a federal grand jury on February 12, 2014, for Aggravated Sexual Abuse by Force. He later pleaded guilty to Abusive Sexual Contact by Force on June 18, 2014. The conviction stems from an incident on December 25, 2013, at Eagle Butte, where Red Bear knowingly caused a minor victim to engage in sexual contact with him after hitting the victim in the head with a bottle.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikal Hanson prosecuted the case.

Red Bear was sentenced to 120 months in custody, 5 years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. He was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to begin serving his sentence.

As part of his sentence, Red Bear will also have to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. This money will go towards helping victims of crime and their families.

The incident is a sobering reminder of the importance of keeping our communities safe from predators like Red Bear. We hope that his sentence serves as a deterrent to others who would seek to harm innocent victims.

We would like to extend our thanks to the investigators and prosecutors who worked tirelessly to bring Red Bear to justice. Their dedication to upholding the law is a testament to their commitment to keeping our communities safe.
