Shame on Cheyenne Brown, 33, of Eagle Butte, South Dakota, who’s just been hit with a devastating 144-month federal prison term for her role in methamphetamine trafficking. United States Attorney Ron Parsons dropped the hammer yesterday, revealing that Brown was also sentenced to five years of supervised release, a $500 fine, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Brown’s journey into the penal system began over two years ago when she was indicted by a federal grand jury on October 16, 2018. She had the audacity to plead guilty on June 16, 2020, for her involvement in a conspiracy that started way back in January 2015.
The crime ring Brown conspired with aimed to distribute between 500 and 1.5 kilograms of meth across the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation—a heartland where such poison has no place. But Brown was just as guilty as anyone else, and now she will pay for her part in this deadly scheme.
Bravo to the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services and the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force for their relentless pursuit of justice. Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges was also at the helm, making sure Brown faced the full brunt of the law.
Brown was immediately handed over to the U.S. Marshals Service following her sentencing—a fitting end for a woman who thought she could avoid the consequences of her actions. South Dakota has spoken, and Cheyenne Brown will soon learn the true meaning of justice.
