Grimy Times: Earnest Guise, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Mississippi 2021
A Jackson man has been sentenced to 46 months in federal prison for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, announced U.S. Attorney Darren J. LaMarca and Special Agent in Charge Jermicha Fomby of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
According to court documents, Earnest Guise, 41, was found in possession of a firearm by a Jackson Police Officer on June 6, 2021, during an investigation into a reported shooting. Guise has multiple prior felony convictions and is prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Guisse pled guilty on November 8, 2022 to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
This case was investigated by the FBI and the Jackson Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jessica S. Terrill.
The case is part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, which aims to reduce violent crime. Through PSN, a broad spectrum of stakeholders work together to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in the community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them.
As part of this strategy, PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime. The program has proven to be effective at reducing violent crime, and this case is an example of its impact.
Guise’s sentence serves as a reminder that possessing a firearm as a convicted felon is a serious offense that will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The U.S. Attorney’s Office and the FBI will continue to work together to keep our communities safe from violent crime.
