BUFFALO, N.Y. – A chilling reminder of the nation’s immigration enforcement efforts came as Wilson Paul Loja-Angamarca, a 28-year-old citizen of Ecuador, pleaded guilty to re-entry of a removed alien.
U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced the plea before U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara, who sentenced Loja-Angamarca to time served and turned him over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for deportation.
Loja-Angamarca’s illegal return to the United States was a brazen move after he was removed from the country in October 2019. His recent capture in Cattaraugus County, NY, on July 24, 2025, came without any legal documents authorizing his presence.
The case is a testament to Operation Take Back America’s relentless pursuit of illegal immigration and the elimination of criminal organizations threatening our communities. It underscores the Department of Justice’s commitment to defending American borders and protecting its citizens from violent crime.
Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael J. Smith, who handled the case, emphasized Loja-Angamarca’s alien status without legal standing in the United States. The successful prosecution is a result of an investigation led by Acting Chief Patrol Agent James D’Amato of the U.S. Border Patrol.
As the nation grapples with illegal immigration and transnational criminal activities, cases like Loja-Angamarca’s serve as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining public safety and enforcing immigration laws.
