BOSTON – A shocking incident of resistance has left authorities stunned. Eddy Rafael Matos-Lara, a 35-year-old Dominican national, has been charged with forcibly resisting federal officers during an immigration arrest.
According to the indictment, on June 16, 2025, Matos-Lara forcibly assaulted, resisted, opposed, impeded, intimidated, or interfered with federal officers while the agents were engaged in the performance of their official duties.
The charge of forcibly assaulting, resisting, opposing, impeding, intimidating, or interfering with federal officers engaged in the performance of official duties provides for a sentence of up to eight years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of $250,000.
United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Michael J. Krol, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in New England made the announcement. Assistant U.S. Attorney David G. Tobin of the Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case.
The alleged incident has sparked concerns from authorities and locals alike. ‘This is a serious matter that undermines the trust and respect between law enforcement and the public,’ said a law enforcement official.
The details contained in the charging documents are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
In a statement, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said, ‘We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those who resist or interfere with law enforcement are held accountable for their actions.’
