Edrey Santo Rojas, Access Device Fraud, Florida 2016

Edrey Santo Rojas, 31, of Fort Myers, is headed to federal prison after being sentenced to three years and nine months for ripping off credit card data and going on a months-long retail crime spree. U.S. District Judge Sheri Polster Chappell handed down the sentence after Rojas pleaded guilty to access device fraud and aggravated identity theft on August 31, 2016.

From December 9, 2014, to August 8, 2015, Rojas used stolen credit card information to fuel a shopping binge across major national chains. Stores like the Nike Factory Store, Target, Kay Jewelers, McDonald’s, and The Home Depot were all hit—each transaction a fresh theft from victims whose identities were seized without permission.

Rojas didn’t target back-alley shops. He walked into high-traffic retail outlets, swiped unauthorized cards, and walked out with merchandise—cash in hand, guilt nowhere in sight. The scam stretched across Southwest Florida, leaving behind a trail of falsified charges and compromised financial records.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation led the investigation, peeling back layers of Rojas’ operation with support from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. Wire records, surveillance, and transaction logs painted a damning picture of a man who treated stolen identities like open wallets.

Assistant United States Attorney Michael C. Baggé-Hernández prosecuted the case, pushing for accountability in a crime wave that hits ordinary people hardest. Identity theft isn’t victimless—it shreds credit, drains bank accounts, and takes years to undo.

Rojas now faces the consequences in federal prison, but the damage lingers for those whose names and numbers he exploited. His 45-month sentence marks the end of the criminal chapter—but for the victims, the fallout continues long after the gavel falls.
