Grimy Times has learned that Edson Aregullin, a 47-year-old Mexican national, has been sentenced to 71 months in federal prison for his role in a massive firearms trafficking operation in Georgia.

According to court documents, Aregullin conspired with several individuals in Mexico to purchase more than 150 firearms from various dealers in the Northern District of Georgia. The firearms, which included 9mm pistols and AR-style rifles, were purchased with funds received from the actual buyer in Mexico and then facilitated transportation to Mexico.

Law enforcement officials have confirmed that the guns Aregullin purchased were used to commit violent crimes, including a deadly encounter between municipal police and armed combatants in Guanajuato, Mexico on April 21, 2022. Eight people were killed and four were injured in the ensuing melee.

Aregullin was sentenced on May 22, 2025, by United States District Judge Steven D. Grimberg, who also imposed three years of supervised release following his prison term.

Aregullin had previously pled guilty on November 19, 2024, to Conspiracy to Traffic in Firearms, three counts of Trafficking in Firearms, and three counts of False Statements to a Federal Firearms Licensee.
