Eduardo Martinez-Campeano, Reentry of a Removed Alien, West Virginia 2018

A Huntington, West Virginia man has pled guilty to a felony offense that could land him in prison for up to ten years and result in a $250,000 fine.

Eduardo Martinez-Campeano, a 47-year-old Mexican national, pleaded guilty to Reentry of a Removed Alien, a felony offense punishable by up to ten years of incarceration, a $250,000 fine, three years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment.

Martinez-Campeano’s guilty plea stems from his illegal reentry into the United States after being deported three times previously. In 2007, Martinez-Campeano was convicted of a felony Forgery offense in Missouri. He was deported from the United States after serving his sentence.

However, Martinez-Campeano reentered the United States and was removed for a second time in 2010. He was again convicted of Reentry of a Removed Alien in 2012, after being caught in Texas, and deported once more.

Martinez-Campeano’s most recent reentry into the United States occurred prior to his arrest in 2018. He was captured by members of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after receiving a tip that he was in the country illegally and working at a restaurant in Barboursville, West Virginia.

U.S. Attorney Mike Stuart commended the investigative efforts of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, saying ‘Two prior felony convictions. Three prior deportations.’ This is exactly why we need the wall – to stop repeat violators and those refusing to comply with our immigration system.’

Martinez-Campeano’s sentencing is scheduled for September 4, 2018. He faces up to ten years of incarceration, a $250,000 fine, three years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment when he is sentenced.

The investigative efforts of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) led to the capture of Martinez-Campeano, who was traced to a hotel in Huntington, West Virginia. ICE agents approached Martinez-Campeano and he surrendered to them. Agents promptly confirmed that Martinez-Campeano was not in the United States legally, and took him into federal custody.
