Health Care Fraud Allegations Hit Pennsylvania Resident
Edward Evans, a 50-year-old resident of Wernersville, Pennsylvania, has been charged with health care fraud in a one-count felony information.
According to United States Attorney Peter Smith, Evans is accused of billing for and receiving reimbursement for attendant care services that were never performed. The alleged scheme involved the Pennsylvania Attendant Care Medicaid Waiver Program.
The investigation into Evans’ activities is ongoing and was conducted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Section.
Assistant United States Attorney Wayne P. Samuelson has been assigned to prosecute the case. Evans faces a potential sentence of up to 10 years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000 if found guilty.
It’s worth noting that indictments and criminal informations are only allegations, and all persons charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The potential sentence for Evans will be determined by the Judge, who will consider factors such as the nature and seriousness of the offense, the defendant’s history and characteristics, and the need to punish, protect the public, and provide for the defendant’s educational, vocational, and medical needs.
