A New Orleans man has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for his role in distributing cocaine base.
According to court documents, Edward McMillan, 25, sold cocaine base to a confidential informant for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives in Metairie, La. on February 9, 2022.
McMillan pleaded guilty to distributing cocaine base, in violation of 21 U.S.C. §§ 841(a)(1) and 846(b)(1)(C).
On April 17, 2024, U.S. District Judge Jane T. Milazzo sentenced McMillan to 21 months in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay a mandatory $100 special assessment fee.
McMillan’s case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities. The program brings together law enforcement and community organizations to foster trust and legitimacy, support community-based initiatives, and set strategic enforcement priorities.
This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco, and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney David Berman of the Violent Crime Unit is prosecuting the case.
The sentencing marks another victory in the fight against drug trafficking in Louisiana. The New Orleans community can feel safer knowing that those responsible for distributing cocaine base are being held accountable.
