Edwardsville Narc Boss Bags Nine Years for Meth, Heroin Smuggling

Edwardsville’s Jackie H. Townsend Jr., 38, has been handed a nine-year federal prison sentence for his role in the distribution of significant quantities of methamphetamine and heroin, according to U.S. Attorney Donald S. Boyce.

The sentence was announced this morning by Chief United States District Judge Michael J. Reagan, who emphasized the gravity of the offense. ‘These are serious drugs,’ he declared, ‘and aiding in their distribution is no small matter.’ Along with his prison term, Townsend must pay a $500 fine and serve three years on supervised release.

The case took an intriguing turn when inspectors from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service spotted a suspicious Express Mail package at the USPS center in Hazelwood, Missouri. A trained dog alerted to the package’s contents, leading to a federal search warrant and the discovery of over two kilograms of 96% pure meth (ice) and over 500 grams of heroin, as well as roughly two pounds of marijuana.

Agents delivered the package to an Illinois hotel where Townsend claimed ownership. His arrest followed swiftly after taking possession. The investigation was a joint effort between the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and agents from the Illinois State Police – Metropolitan Enforcement Group Southern Illinois (MEGSI).

Assistant United States Attorney Nathan D. Stump led the prosecution in this landmark case, which serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against drug trafficking.
