Humberto Rodriguez, NYC Murder for Drug-Trafficking, New York 2020

Manhattan federal court witnessed a chilling guilty plea from Humberto Rodriguez, alias ‘El Bori’, for the tragic murder of Jorge Miguel Cabrera on April 18, 2020.

The United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Damian Williams, outlined the grim details of the incident. Rodriguez and his gang were involved in a botched drug transaction when they opened fire on the sellers, resulting in the fatal injury to Mr. Cabrera.

According to the allegations, Rodriguez’s shooting was an attempt to flee with the buyers’ money after the transaction went awry. The aftermath of this senseless violence serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with drug trafficking.

At 27 years old, Rodriguez faces a maximum sentence of life in prison for his heinous act, under Title 18, United States Code, Sections 924(j) and 2. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for March 9, 2022, before U.S. District Judge P. Kevin Castel.

Two of Rodriguez’s codefendants, Alex Melendez and Sharone Lewis, have already entered guilty pleas in related offenses. The case highlights the ongoing efforts by Homeland Security Investigations, DEA, NYPD, and OCDETF to dismantle criminal organizations that threaten public safety.

The prosecution team is led by Assistant United States Attorneys Peter J. Davis and Nicholas W. Chiuchiolo, who are dedicated to bringing justice for the victims of this brutal crime.
