Almanzar, Tax Evasion, Florida 2024

The Justice System has come down on a corrupt tax preparer in Doral, Florida. Eleuterio Almanzar, owner of Almanzar Tax Accounting & Consulting Corp. and Almanzar Financial Services Corp., has been hit with a lawsuit for allegedly filing false tax returns, underreporting income and claiming improper deductions for his clients.

According to the complaint filed in U.S. District Court in the Southern District of Florida, Almanzar prepared federal income tax returns that understated the tax owed or sought larger refunds than were due. The improper claims were made for education credits, first-time homebuyer tax credits, earned income tax credits, charitable deductions and business expense deductions, all without proper documentation.

Several of Almanzar’s customers told the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that they were unaware of the improper deductions and credits taken on their tax returns, and that the information was not based on any information they provided to Almanzar. The IRS examined several of Almanzar’s returns and found an average tax deficiency of $3,249 per return since 2009, potentially resulting in millions of dollars in harm to the United States.

The complaint seeks to bar Almanzar and his businesses from preparing federal tax returns for others, and to enjoin him from using false or fictitious identification numbers to file or remit tax returns. The government also wants Almanzar to provide a list of customers who have used his services since 2009.

The Tax Division has obtained injunctions against hundreds of unscrupulous tax preparers and tax scheme promoters in the past decade. Return preparer fraud is one of the IRS’s Dirty Dozen Tax Scams for 2015. The Justice System urges taxpayers to be cautious when choosing a tax preparer and to report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.

Almanzar’s alleged actions have put thousands of dollars into the pockets of his clients, but at the expense of the U.S. Treasury. The Justice System will not tolerate such deceit and is committed to bringing those responsible to justice.
