Brooklyn’s Elgin Brack was handed a 43-year sentence today in federal court for a string of armed robberies that terrorized Queens convenience stores. Brack, 24, faced convictions on multiple counts including robbery, attempted robbery, conspiracy, and discharging a firearm during a violent crime.
The sentencing followed a harrowing trial where it was revealed that Brack not only threatened his victims with a .357 Magnum revolver but also shot a Duane Reade store clerk in the head and hand. The clerk survived the incident. Brack’s uncle, Scott Brack, 51, pleaded guilty to conspiracy earlier and is now awaiting his own sentence.
U.S. Attorney Breon Peace called out the defendant’s heinous acts, saying, ‘This Office will continue to vigorously prosecute defendants like Brack who engage in gun violence that threatens community safety.’ The New York City Police Department (NYPD) Commissioner Dermot F. Shea echoed the sentiment, highlighting the collaborative efforts of law enforcement in bringing justice to this case.
The robberies were part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a comprehensive program aiming to reduce violent crime. Assistant United States Attorneys Jonathan Siegel and Jonathan P. Lax led the prosecution, with Tanisha R. Payne handling asset recovery matters.
Elgin Brack’s conviction and sentence serve as a stark reminder of the dangerous consequences of gun violence and the relentless efforts by law enforcement to protect innocent citizens and ensure justice is served.
