Tampa, Florida – Elias Garcia-Cervantes Sentenced for Illegal Reentry
Elias Garcia-Cervantes, a 37-year-old Mexican national, has been sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for illegal reentry into the United States after deportation.
U.S. District Judge Richard A. Lazzara handed down the sentence following Garcia-Cervantes’ guilty plea on November 22, 2024.
According to court documents, Garcia-Cervantes was convicted of carrying a concealed firearm on July 28, 2015, and illegal reentry into the United States after deportation on February 21, 2017.
Following those convictions, Garcia-Cervantes was deported from the United States to Mexico. However, he illegally reentered the United States, violating his deportation order.
This case was investigated by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ross Roberts.
Garcia-Cervantes’ sentence is a reminder that reentering the United States after deportation is a serious offense with severe consequences.
