ALBUQUERQUE – Elizabeth Gallardo, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen living in Mexico, faced the federal bench today after being sentenced to 30 months behind bars for her role in methamphetamine trafficking.
Gallardo and her co-defendant, Yuriria Anahid Ramirez-Moreno, were apprehended on May 13, 2016, by the Las Cruces Police Department. Both women were found with substantial quantities of meth—Gallardo with 100.6 grams and Ramirez-Moreno with 108.5 grams.
Indicted on July 20, 2016, Gallardo and Ramirez-Moreno were charged with conspiracy to distribute the drug after their initial arrest. Their guilty pleas, entered on August 29, 2016, revealed a scheme that included Gallardo delivering over 54 grams of meth to an undercover agent, while Ramirez-Moreno admitted to delivering nearly 56 grams.
While Ramirez-Moreno awaits sentencing, which could see her face up to 20 years in prison, Gallardo’s punishment is clear. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark A. Saltman will be handling the case against Ramirez-Moreno once a sentencing hearing is scheduled.
This investigation was a joint effort between the DEA and the Las Cruces Police Department, with Saltman leading the prosecution.
