A Scio woman has been sentenced to 24 months in prison for her role in a methamphetamine conspiracy.
Elizabeth J. Schreiber, 37, was convicted of conspiracy to manufacture, possess with intent to distribute, and distribute, a mixture and substance containing methamphetamine.
The crime occurred between January of 2011 and late 2014, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Brendan T. Cullinane, who handled the case.
Schreiber was accused of using a practice known as ‘smurfing’ to purchase small quantities of products containing pseudoephedrine, an integral ingredient in the methamphetamine manufacturing process.
‘Smurfing’ involves buying products containing pseudoephedrine in small quantities to avoid restrictions on purchasing significant quantities.
A total of 12 people have been arrested as part of this conspiracy. Schreiber is the 10th defendant to be convicted.
The investigation was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the New York State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force, the Wellsville Police Department, U.S. Border Patrol, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
