Buffalo Man Sentenced On Heroin Charge

Buffalo, NY – In a major blow to the city’s heroin trade, Julio Sanchez, 30, of Buffalo, NY, was sentenced to 78 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo. Sanchez, who was convicted of possession with intent to distribute more than 100 grams of heroin, is the first of his co-defendants to face justice.

The charges stem from a search warrant executed by law enforcement officers at a residence on West Delavan Avenue on February 26, 2014. During the search, officers recovered more than 100 grams of heroin, drug packaging paraphernalia, and $4,000 in cash. Co-defendants Tomas Figueroa and Elias Figueroa were arrested at the scene, while two other defendants, Steven Martinez and Jeffrey Coleman, were also apprehended.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura A. Higgins handled the case, which was the result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge James J. Hunt, New York Field Division.

Sanchez’s sentence is a testament to the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the heroin epidemic plaguing the city.

The defendant’s exact criminal charges include possession with intent to distribute more than 100 grams of heroin, which carries a significant prison sentence.
