MINNEAPOLIS – Ember Shawndale White, 22, of St. Paul is facing federal charges after authorities say he was found illegally packing heat. A federal grand jury returned an indictment against White for possession of a firearm as a convicted felon, U.S. Attorney Andrew M. Luger announced Wednesday.
The bust went down July 23, 2021, when White was discovered with a Beretta APX 9x19mm pistol. This wasn’t a simple mistake. White already has a criminal record stretching across Ramsey, Hennepin, and Dakota Counties, racking up multiple felony convictions – a clear legal bar to owning any firearms or ammunition.
White is now formally charged with one count of possessing a firearm as a felon. He appeared in U.S. District Court today before Magistrate Judge Becky R. Thorson to begin the legal process. Details of bail or potential plea deals were not immediately available.
The investigation leading to White’s indictment was a joint effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the St. Paul Police Department. Sources indicate this was part of a larger effort to get illegal guns off the streets of the Twin Cities.
