Devin Blake Badon, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Louisiana 2023

LAKE CHARLES, LA – A trio of federal sentences handed down this week in Louisiana’s Western District reveal a persistent pattern of illegal gun possession among repeat offenders. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), alongside local law enforcement, has been aggressively pursuing these cases, resulting in significant prison time for those caught flouting gun laws.

Devin Blake Badon, 31, of Cameron, Louisiana, will spend the next 60 months behind bars, followed by 3 years of supervised release. Badon pleaded guilty to being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. The case originated with a call to the Johnson Bayou Police Department regarding Badon allegedly following a woman in a vehicle. When deputies approached Badon, he refused to comply with commands, leading to his arrest. A search of his vehicle turned up three firearms. Badon’s criminal history includes convictions for simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, negligent homicide, and criminal damage to property – all rendering him legally prohibited from owning guns.

The most severe sentence went to Demetrius Jerone Davis, 39, of Abbeville, who received a 120-month prison term and 3 years of supervised release. Davis admitted to possessing a stolen SCCY Model CPX-9 9mm pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition. The gun was discovered during a traffic stop by the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office in January 2021. Davis confessed the firearm was stolen and linked to a felony-level controlled substance offense. He also has prior felony convictions for drug offenses dating back to 2005 and 2008.

In a separate case, Mark Edward Fee, 43, of Sulphur, was sentenced to 84 months in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release. Investigators executing a search warrant at Fee’s residence in October 2021 found a stolen Hi-Point Model C9 9mm pistol. ATF analysis confirmed the firearm had crossed state lines, establishing federal jurisdiction. Fee admitted he knew the gun was in his home and that he was forbidden to possess it due to his prior felony convictions.

The final sentencing saw Javeon Jaron Green, 22, of Lake Charles, receive 46 months in prison, plus 3 years of supervised release. An arrest warrant had been issued for Green in November 2020 based on investigations conducted by the Lake Charles Police Department and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office. Details surrounding the initial investigation leading to the warrant were not released.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jamilla A. Bynog, Daniel J. McCoy, and Danny Siefker led the prosecutions. These cases underscore the ATF’s continued focus on removing illegally possessed firearms from the streets of South Louisiana and holding accountable those who repeatedly break the law. The Grimy Times will continue to follow these cases and report on the ongoing battle against gun crime in the region.
