St. Francis Man Sentenced for Failing to Register as Sex Offender

St. Francis, South Dakota – Ennors Quick Bear, age 28, was sentenced to 15 months in custody, followed by 5 years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund for failing to register as a sex offender.

United States Attorney Randolph J. Seiler announced that Quick Bear was sentenced on January 31, 2017, by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange. Quick Bear was convicted of Sexual Abuse of a Minor in federal court in September 2012 and is required to register as a sex offender.

In June 2016, Bear registered with an address in St. Francis. However, on August 9, 2016, Bear moved to a different address in St. Francis, but did not update his registration. Bear was on federal supervised release at the time and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On September 15, 2016, Bear was arrested at a house in St. Francis without incident. Bear did not update his sex offender registration between August 12, 2016, and September 15, 2016, as required by law.

This case was investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Albertson prosecuted the case. Quick Bear was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.

Ennors Quick Bear’s failure to register as a sex offender has serious consequences. As a registered sex offender, Quick Bear is required to update his registration within three business days of relocating or changing employment. Failing to do so can result in severe penalties, including imprisonment and fines.

The U.S. Marshals Service takes the safety of the community seriously and will continue to investigate and prosecute individuals who fail to register as sex offenders.
