Eric Contreras, Illegal Reentry, Massachusetts 2023

A Guatemalan national was charged today in federal court in Boston with an immigration crime.

Eric Contreras, 29, was charged today with one count of illegal reentry after deportation.

Contreras was previously deported on May 11, 2016. On June 7, 2017, Contreras was arrested in Waltham on unrelated state charges.

Contreras faces no greater than 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, a fine of $250,000, and will be subject to deportation upon completion of his sentence. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

Acting United States Attorney William D. Weinreb and Matthew J. Etre, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in Boston, made the announcement today.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas Soivilien of Weinreb’s Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting this case.

The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts.
