Eric Correia, RICO Conspiracy, Massachusetts 2024

BOSTON, MA – Eric Correia, a/k/a “Bubba,” 26, of Boston, admitted today to a litany of crimes as a foot soldier in the ruthless Cameron Street gang, a Dorchester-based crew known for bloodshed and brazen disregard for the law. Correia pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to participate in a racketeering enterprise – a RICO conspiracy – and one count of distribution and possession with intent to distribute marijuana. He now faces a potential 20-year sentence for the RICO charge alone.

Federal prosecutors detailed how Cameron Street operates as a violent force, using intimidation and force to control territory, silence rivals, and boost its reputation in the streets of Dorchester. The gang actively promotes its crimes and taunts opposing groups, specifically the NOB gang (Norton, Onley and Barry Streets), also known as Wendover, through social media channels. Weapons are routinely possessed, carried, and deployed in assaults and attempted murders, and the gang’s activities extend beyond violence to include narcotics trafficking, armed robbery, and even human trafficking – all to line the pockets of its leaders.

Correia’s direct involvement in a particularly violent act came to light during the investigation. He confessed to the March 2019 attempted murder of a member of the rival NOB/Wendover gang on Clayborne Street. The shooting underscores the escalating tensions and brutal tactics employed by Cameron Street to maintain its dominance. Beyond the attempted murder, Correia also admitted to participating in an armed robbery targeting a drug customer, further cementing his role as a key player in the gang’s criminal enterprise.

Despite attempting to conceal his identity during a marijuana deal – selling $1,400 worth of the drug to a cooperating witness – Correia was identified by a distinctive “C” tattoo on his hand, a common symbol used by Cameron Street members to signify allegiance. This seemingly small detail, along with extensive investigative work, proved crucial in building the case against him. The tattoo serves as a chilling reminder of the gang’s pervasive presence and the lasting marks it leaves on the city.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts has secured a guilty plea that carries significant weight. The RICO conspiracy and conspiracy to interfere with commerce by force or violence each carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, along with three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine. The marijuana distribution charge adds another potential five years behind bars, at least two years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is scheduled for September 11, 2024, before U.S. Senior District Court Judge William G. Young.

This case is a product of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) Strike Force Initiative, a multi-agency effort bringing together the ATF, DEA, and Boston Police, along with support from the Massachusetts State Police and several county sheriff’s offices. Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy, James M. Ferguson, Special Agent in Charge of the ATF’s Boston Field Division, Stephen Belleau, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the DEA’s New England Field Division, and Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox jointly announced the guilty plea today, signaling a continued commitment to dismantling criminal organizations like Cameron Street and bringing its members to justice.
